Slacken Chair by MAGDELEINE
Humanity and nature are at the centre of my work. I’m inspired by biodiversity, like the human body and the micro or macro nature because nature is a key for our wellbeing.
Japanese researchers have proved that walking in the forest was really beneficial to help in organizing our thoughts. The nature is looks like us, it prompts us to take time and allows us to feel safe and free. The strengths and feeling of freedom released by our natural environment inspire me every day.
Magdeleine is a responsible French brand. Our mission is to offer unique experiences. I always start by handpicking each one of my woods, which are guaranteed from France.
To develop my pieces, I focus on shape, movement and the contrast between shadow and light.
The main idea is to combine the authenticity of the craftsmanship with the functional aesthetic of good designs. To achieve this, I use the bentwood technique which allows me to curve the wood.
I love this technique because it gives me the sensation, I’m implementing life back into the wood. My savoir-faire makes my creation feels contemporary and they are all unique and carefully handmade. I love to work on natural wood to keep its essence, smell, touch. This makes every detail singular which awakens our sense, makes us be more curious and transform our relationship with the object.
What I love when I create is the range of possibilities. I can reinvent myself constantly.
My chair ‘Slacken’ is inspired by the human body. It symbolizes strength and freedom. Its shape makes you feel like you’re encircled and almost protected by a tree. Helps people feel closer to nature and more conscious of their body. It revitalizes your mind, soul and body. ‘Slacken’ is a beautiful symbiosis between humanity and nature.
The rest of my collection is also developed with responsible values. Humans are like a sponge, we absorb all the energies that surround us, that’s why I feel like offering functional objects of art is a brilliant way to connect people and nature.
“By reflecting a unique form of authenticity and emotion through my productions, I want to inspire people with a desire for change, positivity and evolution. Objects are the extension of ourselves.
My desire is to offer to users an experience via the object, so they can reconnect with themselves and some values that are important to all of us. My work focuses on anthropomorphic and ergonomic analysis of the human being.
The concept of duality is vital to my work. I’m constantly looking for a balance between fundamental paradoxes, which are sometime destructive, but most of the time complementary.
The Slacken chair is the expression of a first work. It results in a contrasted and ergonomic aesthetics which offers a truthful moment of rest between passivity and action.”
